Mission Statement

Reading Lodge # 254

The mission of Reading Lodge #254 is to promote Masonry in Shasta County in a way that attracts new members, inspires existing members to be active and continue their Masonic education, brings value to the community, instills pride in the Lodge, and creates interaction with the entire Masonic Family.

The mission of Freemasonry in California is brotherhood, community involvement, and self-improvement through education, family values, moral standards, and charity.

Masonry is the world's first and largest fraternal organization. It is a body of knowledge and a system of ethics based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while being devoted to his family, faith, country, and fraternity. As Masons, we lead by example, give back to our communities, and support numerous Masonic philanthropies. We invest in children, our neighborhoods, and our future.

Our Values: Our mission is guided by the enduring and relevant tenets of our fraternity--brotherly love, relief, and truth--and our core values, which include:

Ethics: Our lives are based on honor and integrity, and we believe that honesty, compassion, trust, and knowledge are important.

Tolerance: The fraternity values religious, ethnic, cultural, social, and educational differences. We respect the opinions of others and strive to improve and develop as human beings.

Personal Growth: Our continuous pursuit of knowledge, ethics, spirituality, and leadership brings more meaning to our lives.

Philanthropy: We make a difference in our communities through charitable giving, community service, and volunteerism.

Family: We strive to be better spouses, parents, and family members. We are committed to protecting the well-being of members and their families, especially when they are in need.

Freedom: Masons value the liberties outlined in the U.S. Constitution and continually promote freedom of speech and expression, freedom to worship a Supreme Being in an individual way, and other important liberties. We believe it is our duty to vote in public elections and to exercise all of our liberties within proper bounds.

Reading Lodge # 254...2010 Vision Statement

Reading Lodge #254 is more than just a building on Masonic Avenue; it is the spirit and soul of the brothers who live by the ideals championed in Masonry and illustrated by the “Declaration of Independence”. It is a place where men of all races and beliefs gather to share in fellowship, self-improvement and service to community. Fellowship between brothers is of the utmost importance for the development of a strong and lasting bond. Our members have a keen sense of fellowship and pride in our lodge and are actively seeking ways to improve our unity. Our lodge is dedicated to working together to promote the Masonic Values of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth in ourselves by actively developing our knowledge of these principles and sharing them with others. We understand and practice what it means to be a Mason inside and outside of the lodge. We as Masons provide support to our brothers, families, widows and to our community and schools by donating time and money. In this way our Lodge continues to be a viable option in the life of the twenty-first century man.
